“One might really fancy that [] one species had been taken and modified for different ends!” Charles Darwin, Voyage of the Beagle 2nd ed, 1845

When Charles Darwin returned to England in 1835 from a voyage to the Galapagos Islands with 13 little bird specimens, he was likely unaware that he was about to change the way the world thinks.

An ornithologist (bird-studier) colleague of his reported that the birds were all distinct species evolved from a single ancient species.  Birds from one species had adapted their size, beak shape and calls to survive in the various environments on the islands.  These came to be known as Darwin’s finches.

From studying these birds Chuck figured out that evolution by natural selection was a no-brainer. (Ed. note: From experience, I expect that much more research and thought went into presenting his theory.)

That’s right, the theory of evolution by natural selection was brought to you by Darwin’s finches!aha
